Let’s face it, we live in a world where off-the-shelf isn’t the standard. Personalisation and customisation have become central to the way we live, and the world of furniture and design is no exception. More than ever homeowners and designers want to create interior objects that are all at once meaningful to them, sustainable and beautiful.

Over the last 12 months, Creative Wall Solutions has been part of some wonderful custom projects and ideas. This smooth and sophisticated centrepiece was designed by Pattern Studio and completed for Brosa Furniture and Homewares. Director, Ronny Helou fills us in on the project.

A client came to us, seeking to create a custom piece for their showroom in Alexandria. We jumped at the chance to be a part of something so fresh and exciting.

The brief

The brief was to create a functional table. It had to have a soft and warm texture, with a smooth-to-touch surface that was durable. The designer simply provided a rendered image of the design.

Also, the client had requested that the table could be moved around the showroom, if needed. Once again with some metal work, we managed to ensure that the table would remain stable, despite these requirements.

The build

We had to make some design tweaks at our end, as well as a structural design sketch. Once we had constructed the table we worked with a joiner to create the drawers that would be built into the constructed table.

Due to its 75mm thickness, the table couldn’t be constructed out of joinery as this would mean the table wouldn’t be structurally sound and the materials that could be used for finishing would be limited. Also, the thin support legs meant we had to apply some clever thinking, constructing a metal frame to carry the table top effectively.

Also, the client had requested that the table be constructed in a way that meant it could be moved around the showroom, if needed. Once again with some metal work, we managed to ensure that the table would remain stable, despite these requirements.

What would you do differently/the same?

This table was completed with a gloss finish, but I’d really like to build one with a matte finish. I’d like to see how that would come up!

What was the best part about working on this project?

Basically, managed the end-to-end process for the client, including delivery to their showroom. We’re so happy that the designers left us with a brief and literally walked away trusting us to do our thing and to deliver to the standard that we aim for. Plus, it’s a unique design that hasn’t been built before!”

Beautiful and functional design
